BMW Warranty Coverage Explained

2023 BMW X5

The BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty lasts for up to four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Like most warranties, it protects you against defects in parts or workmanship related to a vast array of covered components. Although you’ll still be responsible for basic services and maintenance, the BMW warranty can help you avoid expensive repairs.

We’ll cover the New BMW Warranty, the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Warranty, and BMW Extended Warranty options below. Take a closer look to find the option that’s right for you.

New BMW Warranty Coverage: An In-Depth Look

The coverage outlined above is your basic or comprehensive New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage. It’s just one part of the BMW warranty package, which includes each of the following:

  • Basic New Vehicle Limited Warranty – 4 years / 50,000 miles
  • Rust Perforation Warranty – 12 years / Unlimited miles
  • Federal Emission Warranty – 2 years / 24,000 miles

Although it isn’t technically a warranty, BMW Ultimate Care deserves your attention as well. This complimentary coverage covers all regularly scheduled maintenance — as laid out in your owner’s manual–for up to three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Like the NVLW, it’s standard with all new models.

What’s Covered by the BMW Warranty?

The BMW warranty covers the majority of your vehicle, allowing you to access repairs — with no cost for parts or labor — where issues have been caused by defects in parts or workmanship.

However, this warranty will not cover parts that are generally subjected to wear and tear, like your brake pads or your filters. It won’t protect against normal sun damage, and it won’t protect your engine against damage caused by improper shifting, either. Review the warranty booklet that came with your vehicle for a full review of details and exclusions, or contact our service department to learn more.

BMW Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Coverage

Choosing a certified pre-owned BMW allows you to access the benefits associated with new cars for a much lower price than you might expect. With these models, you’ll receive whatever remains of the 4-year/50,000-mile new warranty, plus one additional year of coverage with no mileage limit. Like their new counterparts, CPO models also include complimentary roadside assistance for your adventures in Denver and Boulder.

Is a BMW Extended Warranty Worth the Cost?

Several official BMW extended warranty plans allow you to extend coverage for up to seven years or 100,000 miles in total. While all options have the same duration, they offer differing levels of coverage. Here’s a closer look at your options:

  • Platinum Protection – Available on New, Used, and CPO Models. Offers comprehensive coverage for core components. Coverage is limited with your interior and exterior.
  • Gold Protection – Available on New and Used Models. Offers comprehensive coverage for core components. Coverage is limited with your electrical systems, interior, and exterior.
  • Powertrain Plus – Available on New and Used Models. Offers comprehensive coverage for your transfer case and your induction system, and limited coverage for a variety of systems.

If you’re considering a BMW extended warranty, review your options carefully with one of our financing specialists before your current warranty coverage expires.
